Welcome to the RepresentED project. For educators, by educators.
As a new initiative this website is very much a work in progress.
What we do
Supporting teachers to include underrepresented people, stories and contexts in the curriculum
Making it possible for students to see themselves, their culture, history and context in the curriculum
The problem
Teachers are not well resourced to include underrepresented content.
Curricula are intentionally general, not specific.
It takes time to research new content to incorporate into teaching.
It is hard to find relevant quality resources that are curriculum aligned.
The impact
Many students are not seeing themselves, their culture, history and context reflected in the curriculum content they learn at school.
You can’t be what you can’t see
Many professions, such as engineering, continue to struggle to attract diverse cohorts.
Societal perspectives on who is successful in many disciplines, remain largely unchanged, discouraging ‘others’ from participation.
The solution
Find the links (…started)
Do the ‘grunt work’ of finding the links between the curriculum and the underrepresented.
Create quality resources (…in progress)
Create quality resources that teachers can use to include the underrepresented in their teaching.
Make it easy (…next step)
Publish freely online so that teachers can easily find the relelvant resource aligned to their curriculum.
